Versions and bulk edit

Your product is a main product plus a version per marketplace, and each of the two has its own bulk edit with its own fields.

Before you start

A product in e-tailize is one main product plus one version per marketplace you sell it on: the "Main product" tab holds your own data, every marketplace tab holds that marketplace's copy of it. That is why your products page counts them apart, as "Total products:" and "Total product versions:".

The same split runs through bulk edit. The "Bulk edit" button on the products page starts on your own product data, and in "Select main product or marketplace" you can point it at one marketplace listing instead. The "Bulk edit" button on a marketplace tab is fixed to that one marketplace, and it adds "Set reference field".

Steps

  1. Click "Bulk edit" above the table on your products page. You do not tick any product first: this dialog works by category.

The button "Bulk edit" above the table, next to "Manage categories", "Import products" and "New product"
The button "Bulk edit" above the table, next to "Manage categories", "Import products" and "New product"
  2. Pick the "Category" the rule runs on.

  3. Choose "Main Product", or one of your marketplace listings, in "Select main product or marketplace".

  4. Choose the action in "Select action": "Set value" writes a value, "Replace value" is a find and replace inside the text that is already there.

  5. Pick the field. The list follows your choice in step 3. On "Main Product", "Set value" offers "Main Title", "Stock", "Main Short Description", "Main Description" and "Price", and "Replace value" offers only the three text fields. On a marketplace listing, "Stock", "Price" and "Main Short Description" drop out, so both actions leave the title field and the description field, shown under that marketplace's own names: on a bol connection "Bol.comName" and "Bol.comDescription".

  6. Type the value in "With", or fill both "Replace" and "With" for a find and replace.

  7. Fill in a "Condition": a field, an operator such as "Contains" or "Equals", and a value. This is what decides which products in the category change, and "Preview edit" stays off until it is complete. "Add condition" narrows it further.

  8. Click "Preview edit" and read the table: "Old value" against "New value" per product, with the count "Total changes to effect : N" under it.

  9. Click "Confirm". A toast counts the products up while they are saved.

What happens next

The change lands on the products you saw in the preview. A rule on "Main Product" writes your own product data. A marketplace field that is set as a reference to that main product field follows the new value, and a field that holds a typed value on the tab does not change.

Products page Marketplace tab
Where "Bulk edit" above the table "Bulk edit" next to "Save product"
Scope the category you pick fixed: this category on this marketplace
Fields five on "Main Product", two on a marketplace listing every field of that marketplace category
Actions "Set value", "Replace value" plus "Set reference field"

Bulk edit inside a PIM tab walks through the second one.

FAQ

Do I have to select products first?

No. Bulk edit ignores the checkboxes in the list. You choose what it touches with the category and the condition, and the preview shows you the exact products before you confirm.

Why does "Preview edit" stay greyed out?

The rule is not complete. It needs the category, the choice in "Select main product or marketplace", the action, the field, the value and a filled in condition. Without that pick the rest of the dialog does not even appear. The moment the condition is complete, the button turns on.
