Link Main Tab fields to your PIM tab

Point a marketplace field at your own product data once, so imports and bulk edits keep every tab up to date.

Before you start

Every product has one main tab, called "Main product" in the app, plus one tab per marketplace you sell it on. That marketplace tab is the PIM tab. Your own product data lives on the main tab; the PIM tab holds the marketplace's version of it, with every attribute that marketplace asks for.

A field on a PIM tab holds either a value you typed there, or a reference to a field on the main product, which it then follows. Link it once and every listing takes the value from your own data.

Steps

  1. Open the product with "Edit" on your products page.
  2. Give the product a "Category" on the "Main product" tab and save it. A marketplace tab is built on that category, and the tab's own marketplace category is fixed once it exists.
  3. Click the marketplace tab you want to fill, or "Add new" to create one first.
  4. Click the chain icon next to the field you want to fill from your own data. Its tooltip reads "Switch to reference field" while the field holds a typed value, and "Switch to value field" while it already holds a reference.
  5. Pick your own field in the dropdown.
  6. Save with "Save & continue" to stay on the tab, or "Save & close" to go back to the list.
  7. Run your imports on the "Main product" tab, never on the marketplace tab. You cannot import into a PIM tab: link the field, import into the main product, and the value flows through by itself.
  8. Use "Bulk edit" on the tab to change the same field on more products at once. It opens "Create your rule", already scoped to this category and this marketplace: pick the action and the field, add at least one condition, then check the outcome with "Preview edit" before you apply it.
  9. Validate the product and run "List content" again. The tab now holds the value, the live listing does not until you send it: Get a product live: validate and list it.

Common problems

A category shows fewer mapping fields than you expect. Check first which category the product sits in: a different or more generic category shows a different, often smaller set of fields. If the category is right, open "Validation", pick the marketplace and click "Refresh category" on that category's card, then fill the fields that appear and validate again. Only if fields the marketplace asks for are still missing, report the marketplace and the category to support. We pick that category up from there, so there is nothing left to change in your own account.

Fields or values in the wrong language. A tab whose dropdown values are in another language than your connection was built on the wrong definition: delete that tab and create it again for those products. Are the descriptions untranslated? Have them translated and run "List content" again.

The category of a tab is locked. The marketplace category decides which fields are mandatory, so it cannot be changed once the tab exists. Delete the tab and create a new one under the right category. Deleting is irreversible, and it does not take a product that is already live off the marketplace.

FAQ

Can I import straight into a PIM tab?

No. Link the marketplace field to a field on the "Main product" tab and run your normal import into the main product. The value flows through to every tab that references it, on every marketplace.

Why does a field say "The [field] field is empty. Please enter a value first in the main tab."?

Because that field is a reference and the field it points at is empty on the main product. Fill it in on the "Main product" tab, or click the chain icon to switch the marketplace field to a typed value and write the text into the tab itself.
