Before you start

MediaMarktSaturn Marketplace Benelux runs on Mirakl and has two storefronts with their own language rules: Marketplace NL and Marketplace BE. On Marketplace NL every attribute is in Dutch (nl_NL). On Marketplace BE every attribute is needed twice, in French (fr_BE) and in Dutch (nl_BE), and the Dutch and the French description have to say the same thing. Content that is already approved on NL can be reused for the Dutch fields on BE.

A product and an offer are two different things. A product always carries a product name, images, a description and a Product_ID or EAN. An offer always carries a condition, new or refurbished, a price and a stock quantity.

Which attributes are required differs per category. Open the product content page in Mirakl, click edit and read the attribute name: an asterisk behind it means the attribute is required.

Common problems

The title on the webshop is not what you typed

Fill only the model or product name in Title. MediaMarkt adds the brand, the device type and the colour to the title on the webshop itself, so anything you repeat there ends up double. Check your titles and your categorisation on the webshop once you are live. The title of a smartphone case is the exception: the product name, then geschikt voor, then the device model it fits.

The device type is too specific

Device Type is a short, generic, singular noun in the language of that storefront. So Oordopjes instead of Draadloze oordopjes, and Light tube instead of Light Tube 125 cm (Wit). It is added to the title on the website and it drives visibility next to the category you picked.

The description gets your account suspended

A description is about the product and about nothing else. Discount codes, coupon codes, inappropriate language and any mention of other websites or social media lead to automatic suspension. Links, emojis and customer service e-mail addresses do not belong there either. HTML is allowed and is the only way to get formatting through to the website. Scope of delivery works the other way around: a short list of what is in the parcel, no HTML, and capitalised properly.

The main image is rejected

The main product image is at least 1000 by 1000 pixels, otherwise the data systems reject it. If your products come in through a file import, give a URL that ends in .png or .jpg. A mobile application is never shown as the main product image.

The energy label is missing

Electrical appliances need both the Energy Label and the Energy Datasheet, called Productinformatieblad in Dutch and Fiche d'information sur le produit in French. Both come from EPREL, the European Product Registry for Energy Labelling. A label from another country, the UK for example, is not accepted, and a technical document or a page from a user manual is no substitute. It applies to a fitted oven, washing machine, dishwasher, television, wine storage and cooling cabinet, monitor, cookers, hoods, cooling combi, American side by side, freezer and chest freezer, refrigerator and washer dryer.

The EAN turns into a number like 5.46548E+11

Excel reads an EAN of thirteen digits as a number and reformats it, your data is corrupted and the product is not created. Select the column with your EAN values, open Format Cells, pick Custom on the Number tab, delete the General setting and type a zero thirteen times as the Type.

FAQ

What do the three product statuses mean?

In the Catalog Manager a product always carries Validation, Acceptance and Synchronization. Validation is computed on import: Valid data, Invalid data, Pending media or Not computed. Acceptance is the marketplace team judging whether the product may be sold: New, Changes required, Pending verification, Rejected or Accepted. Synchronization says whether the product reached their system: Synchronized, Not synchronized or Synchronization error.

My product sits on Pending media, what now?

The marketplace team rejected it on data quality. Hover your mouse over the question mark to read the rejection reason, update the source product data sheet, and the catalogue team reviews the product again. Rejected is something else: that product is not reviewed a second time.

How do I group variants of one product?

With a Variant Group Code, the attribute ATTR_PROD_MP_VariantGroupCode in the operator template. Give every variant the same code and Mirakl links them as a family. The attribute only appears when you generated the template with the optional attributes included, and variants only work once MediaMarkt configured variant creation for your categories.

My brand is not in the list

Brand is a value list. A brand that is not registered in their platform configuration has to be added on their side, so ask your partner manager to do that before you upload.

What does a refurbished product need?

Always the original EAN of the new product, so your refurbished offer is matched with that product. New or refurbished itself is part of the offer, not of the product.
