Troubleshooting

My Shopify import brings in nothing or only half my range

Check the connection, the permissions of the custom app in Shopify and the barcode field before you run the import again.

Before you start

An import that brings nothing in, or brings half your range in, almost always fails on one of three things: the connection, the permissions of the custom app in Shopify, or the data in Shopify itself. Work through them in that order, then run "Import products from your CMS" again.

Common problems

The connection is not complete

Open the Shopify connection and pick it under "Select connection". Click the info icon next to it ("Modify connection credentials") and confirm with "Edit": only then can you see and change "Store url", "Api key" and "Admin api access token". The store url is the address of your Shopify store, the other two come from the custom app you created in Shopify.

Left the token empty? Then the form says "Password is required". That message means the "Admin api access token" field is empty: Shopify works with a token instead of a password. Fill it in and click "Test & save connection".

The custom app is missing permissions

An app without the right scopes returns an empty or partial list, so the import brings in nothing or half your range while the connection itself is fine. In Shopify, go to Apps and sales channel settings, then Develop apps, then e-tailize, then configuration, then edit. Tick everything and click Save. Then run the import again.

Products with an empty barcode are skipped

Shopify has no EAN field. e-tailize reads the EAN from the barcode field in Shopify, and with the default "By same ean" the import only takes products that have one: a product with an empty barcode is skipped and never reaches e-tailize. Fill the barcode in Shopify and run the import again.

Half the products list and half do not

The products that fail are the ones whose barcode in Shopify is not a valid EAN. A marketplace refuses a barcode whose check digit does not add up, so a number that is one digit off is rejected.

FAQ

Do I have to import everything again after a fix?

Run the import again. That is safe for products that already have the right EAN on both sides ("How do you want us to update already existing products?" defaults to "By same ean"). A product that is already in e-tailize without an EAN (created by CSV import, or by an earlier import with "By same barcode" or "By same name") will not match on EAN, so filling only the barcode in Shopify gives you a second product.

Can I import my product variants as separate products?

Yes. The import has the option "Import all product variants as separate products". Turn it on before you start the import, not afterwards.
