Before you start

This is for a webshop connection you already saved: WooCommerce, Shopify or Lightspeed. Are you setting one up for the first time? Then use Connect WooCommerce, Connect Shopify or Connect Lightspeed instead.

Create the new credentials in your own webshop first and keep them in front of you. Give them the same permissions the old ones had, because e-tailize reads your store with them. The dialog you are about to open says so itself: changing the credentials can affect our access to the information in your store.

You do not change the credentials on the "API connections" page. A webshop connection is edited on its own import page, the one behind the logo of your system.

Steps

  1. Open the "General" tab of the dashboard and click the logo of your system under "Products import". The page "Import products from your CMS" opens.
  2. Open the "Select connection" dropdown and pick the connection you want to change. The store address locks, the credential fields disappear and an icon appears next to "Select connection".
  3. Click that icon, the one with the tooltip "Modify connection credentials".
  4. Read the three warnings in the dialog "Edit connection credentials".
  5. Click "Edit" to unlock the fields. "Close" leaves everything as it was.
  6. Replace the credentials your system asks for. WooCommerce uses "Consumer key" and "Consumer secret", Shopify uses "Api key" and "Admin api access token", Lightspeed uses "API key" and "API secret".
  7. Click "Test & save connection".

What happens next

e-tailize tests the credentials against your store before it saves anything. When they work you get the green message "Connection test passed and saved successfully!" and the fields lock again.

It stays the same connection, under the same name. For WooCommerce and Shopify the "Import products" button sits in the same action bar, next to "Test & save connection", so you can check the connection with an import right away.

Common problems

"Invalid WooCommerce connection details."

The full text is "Invalid WooCommerce connection details. Please refer to instructions on how to connect to your store", and Shopify and Lightspeed have their own version of it. Nothing is saved. Check the store address as well as the new key and secret, and open the help icon next to "Configure connection" for the steps of your own system. On Lightspeed, also check that "Shop primary language (two letter abbreviation)" is filled in and that your Lightspeed plan is Advanced or Professional, because a lower plan fails with credentials that look right.

"An existing connection has already been made to this store"

The full text is "An existing connection has already been made to this store, please specify a different url or use the existing one". You are adding a new connection instead of editing the one you have. Pick your connection in the "Select connection" dropdown first, then do the steps above.

FAQ

I do not see the icon next to "Select connection"

It only appears once you have picked an existing connection in the dropdown, and it hides again while you are editing. As long as the dropdown shows "Select to add new connection" you are creating a connection, not changing one.

What happens if I click "Close" in the dialog?

Nothing. The fields stay locked and the credentials that are saved keep working. The dialog is there so that you cannot unlock the fields by accident.

Can I change the store address here too?

"Edit" unlocks the store field as well. Point it at another store only when that store does not have its own connection yet, because a store address that is already connected is refused with "An existing connection has already been made to this store, please specify a different url or use the existing one".

Where do I find the instructions for my own webshop?

Click the help icon next to "Configure connection" at the top of the page. It opens the steps for your system, for example "How to connect with WooCommerce", so you can see which permissions the new credentials need.
