On this page
Before you start
"Marketplace validation" under "Settings" is not the "Validation" screen in the sidebar. "Validation" walks your products through a category and is where you fix a product, see Read the Validation screen. "Marketplace validation" does one thing: it stores a field length for a field of a marketplace.
If you do not see "Marketplace validation" in your "Settings" list, ask us in the chat.
You also need at least one marketplace connection. The page starts with a card per marketplace connection, and with nothing connected it stays empty.
Steps
- Open "Settings" in the left sidebar and click "Marketplace validation". The "Marketplace validation" page opens with a card per marketplace connection.
- Click the card of the marketplace you want to set a length for.
- Type a few letters in "Search category by typing a name" under "Select category" and pick a category from the list.
- Read the rows that appear. Every row is one field of that category, with the field name on the left and a "Field length" box next to it.
- Fill in "Field length" for the field you want to cap. The box takes a whole number and does not go below 0.
- Click "Save" on that row. Every row carries its own "Save", so one click stores one field.
What happens next
A message confirms the save: "PIM marketplace validation entries have been updated successfully!". The number comes back in the "Field length" box the next time you open that field.
The number is stored against the marketplace and the field name, not against the one category you picked. So the same field name in another category of that marketplace reads back the same length, and a field you never filled in keeps no length at all.
Common problems
"Save" stays disabled while the "Field length" box is empty. Type a number and the button becomes clickable, so clearing a box is not a way to remove a length.
The page shows "Category definition not available!" with the line "This category is currently not supported by selected marketplace, please contact support about this category." when the marketplace returns no field definition for the category you picked. There is nothing to set there. Pick another category, or ask us in the chat about that one.
Nothing at all under the heading usually means the project has no marketplace connection yet, or that you have not picked a card and a category.
FAQ
Why do I pick a category if the length is per marketplace?
Because the list of fields comes from the category definition of the marketplace. That is how the page knows which fields exist and what they are called. The number you save is then keyed on the marketplace and the field name.
Does this replace shortening the title in the PIM tab?
No. This page only stores a length. The actual value still lives in the tab of that product, see Link Main Tab fields to your PIM tab.
Do all marketplaces allow the same length?
No, they differ a lot. A product title that fits on one marketplace can be far too long on another, which is why the length sits per marketplace here. Check the guidelines of the marketplace itself for the rule it applies.
A product was refused after listing. Does a length here fix that?
Not on its own. An error that comes back after listing is reported by the marketplace, so start with Fix validation and listing errors.
